The Value of Open Source

A few weeks back, I stumbled upon Ohloh and noticed that John was kind enough to have already added Satchmo. I looked at the stats associated with Satchmo. We now have about 8,000 lines of code which would have taken about 2 person years to build. The estimate is that this project would have cost over $97,000! You could probably debate that exact number but it would be hard to debate that Open Source software development can provide tremendous value. Pretty cool.
